Philosophic Concepts in Film: On Purpose Course/Class November 4, 2011

Many philosophers from Socrates, Buddha, Plato, and Aristotle, to Kant, Nietzsche, Russell, Heidegger and Wittgenstein, have reflected on purpose and purposelessness. It is not uncommon to see aspects of their work reflected in many modern films. One need only think of classics such as The Passion of Joan of Arc, Citizen Kane, Its a Wonderful Life, The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Blues Brothers as well as recent unforgettable films like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The social network, Shutter Island, Thor, Slumdog Millionaire and Inglourious Basterds , among others.
