San Francisco Performances announces a new season addition: Legendary composer Philip Glass will perform a solo recital of classic works from the time period of Lucinda Childs' minimalist masterpiece Dance (her 1979 collaboration with Glass and visual artist Sol LeWitt, which SF Performances presents at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts April 28, 29 and 30). Glass's recital will take place at YBCA Theater 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

The program includes Mad Rush-originally composed for organ in 1980-to which Childs choreographed a solo for herself. Besides other pieces he wrote during the Dance era, Glass will also play a selection from his Etudes.

SF Performances has a rich history with Glass, and he has performed here with his ensemble as part of the 2006 presentation of the Qatsi Film Trilogy in 2006 and in a 2007 concert. SF Performances presented his Music in Twelve Parts in 2009 and, this past November, the Bay Area premiere of his new violin concerto, "American Four Seasons." This added recital, in conjunction with the revival of Dance, marks another great collaboration.

Tickets to the April 30 recital are $30, $40 and $50. For more information, contact (415) 398-6449 or go to sfperformances.org.
