Elementary aged students (K-6) will be challenged to compete against other participating schools to design the most creative recycled art display (using paper ma-shay) This year we would like to continue the focus on recycled art as in the last 2 years, but would like to implement “paper mache as the craft instead of all other materials of recycling so we can easily recycle the design after the contest.

The secondary age level (7-12) will also be challenged to compete with other schools to see which school can recycle the most paper and design a poster that can be re-used as a book cover after it is submitted for the art contest. The art work can be anything relevant to recycling or ways to minimize waste and help preserve our resources.

If the school decides to help implement the 4Rs, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rebuy. We will acknowledge the winning schools at the end of November with a “Green Star of Pharr” designation plaque, media recognition and city library display of art, followed by a complimentary visit by our mascot, Gary the Green Ranger along with goody bags for each of your students and an environmental education presentation with a (optional) hands on lesson plan using Keep America Beautiful and the Waste In Place curriculum.
