Overview:
Over the last few years pharmaceutical companies have begun to implement collaboration tools, the most common of which being Microsoft SharePoint. However, organizations have struggled with how to best develop collaboration capabilities and how to use them effectively. In addition, the overwhelming number of features and options within SharePoint has left many confused as to the best approach to implementing it. In an effort to provide greater clarity into this burgeoning area, this forum has been created to bring the SharePoint user community together to share best practices and lessons learned.The audience will be comprised primarily of thebusiness users from the pharmaceutical industry,many of whom are trying to gain a better understanding of how SharePoint can be used to improve their R&D operations via collaboration with both internal and external partners.

Management Tool
The use of SharePoint and OneNote, a user friendly electronic notebook interface, has truly revolutionized the way Pfizers drug discovery project teams share their information. This combination has created an excellent team knowledge management tool, which not only has reinvented team collaboration, but also has reduced email traffic and eliminated information silos. This presentation will demonstrate how research teams can aggregate information together from multiple sources, arrange it in a familiar notebook format, add hyperlinks, text and pictures alongside document files, and create shared notebooks. Additionally, the benefits of enabling project teams to seamlessly work in a collaborative fashion will be discussed.

This discussion will focus on SharePoint as a tool for improving a widevariety of business processes using standard out-of-the-box SharePointfunctionality (i.e. no customizations via FrontPage or SharePointDesigner). Included in the discussion will be lessons learned over sixyears of SharePoint usage, as well as considerations for rolling out andmanaging SharePoint across multiple sites.

2:00 SharePoint: An Integrated CTMS/EDC System
This session will feature a live demonstration of a fully integrated Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) and Electronic Data Capture (EDC) capability built within SharePoint. Utilizing SharePoints collaboration functionality and InfoPath web forms, this fully validated system is being used to collect clinical data and enable the management of multiple clinical trials sponsored by the US Department of Veteran Affairs. This demonstration will highlight how teams can use SharePoint to create new study & site portals, capture data directly from sites, manage clinical trials at the program, study, and site levels.

3:45 Automating Business Work Flows
SharePoint provides built-in workflow templates that can be tailored and used to automate approval, review, and archiving processes. With the use of third party tools, such as InfoPath and Nintex, end users can quickly and easily build forms and complex workflow processes using a web browser interface. Examples of these tools and how they can automate common business processes will be discussed as well as roll out strategies, portioning of site collections and content databases.
