Dr. John Beebe's 8-Function or "Whole Type" model of personality (related to MBTI(R) or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(R)) recognizes that each of us can access all 8 of the functions of consciousness that Dr. Carl Jung discovered. Functions of consciousness - such as extraverted intuition or introverted feeling - can be thought of as kinds of awareness, ways of paying attention. Beebe's model asserts that we use different kinds of awareness for different purposes depending on our psychological type.

For example, if Ellen's dominant function is extraverted thinking, she will tend to use goal-directed thinking and planning when she needs to master a situation. When she wants to be nurturing, playful, or creative, though, she will naturally turn to other kinds of awareness. And again, when she feels herself to be threatened-opposed, belittled, tricked, or undermined-she will deploy still other functions of awareness to defend herself.

Our speaker, Adam Frey, will help to sharpen our understanding of Jung's 8 functions and will explore the implications of Beebe's model, using examples from professional life and personal relationships as well as from dance, painting, film, and theater. As a group, we'll try our hand at identifying which functions are being used.

* Hone your ability to recognize the eight functions in action
* Experience how introverted functions can be as impactful as extraverted ones
* Learn how Beebe's model can help you to verify a person's true type
* Discover four hidden ways we tend to defend ourselves in stressful situations
* Find out how to identify and begin to explore your less preferred functions
