Habits are memorized solutions to things we do commonly. Habits save time and mental effort because we don't need to keep solving the same problem over and over. Habits allow us to use that time and effort for more important things. A problem is that not all habits are good or useful. Sometimes habits are formed that are ineffective or cause damage (such as using smoking to relieve tension). We must consciously remove poor habits and create new good habits.
