Membrane science and technology conference serial of ‘Visegrád countries’ (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) is aimed to provide biannual meeting place for membranologists with wider international participation. Following the traditions (PERMEA 2003 Tatranske Matliare, Slovakia and PERMEA 2005 Polanica Zdroj, Poland), a residential conference is organized.

The name ‘Visegrád countries’ is derived from a meeting of the Bohemian, Polish and Hungarian rulers in the Hungarian city of Visegrád in 1335. Charles I of Hungary, Casimir III of Poland and the Bohemian king, John of Luxembourg agreed to create new commercial routes being able to pass by the staple port Vienna and getting easier onto other European markets. A similar summit held in the city of Visegrád in 1991 to establish cooperation between the ‘successors’ under the name of ‘Visegrád group’ in order to further the process of European integration.
