300 Nicollet Mall
Minneapolis, Minnesota 55401

Presented by Dr. Betty Bright, book arts historian, and Chip Schilling, book artist and printmaker.

What happens to a book when it outlives its purpose on the shelf? If it falls into the right hands, it is transformed into an art object that may or may not resemble its original form as a book. An altered book is any book, old or new, that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art. This winter the Library will host exhibitions at the Central Library exploring the art form of altered books: one showcasing national artists (curated by Dr. Betty Bright) and one highlighting works from Minnesota college students (curated by Chip Schilling). Listen to the curators talk about this exciting art in an illustrated lecture and stay for a post-reception to check out the exhibitions and meet a few of the artists themselves.
