Penn State Behrend Choirs' "Night Turns to Day" December 2, 2011

November 1, 2011 – Musical themes of darkness and sleep transitioning to morning and renewal will be explored in “Night Turns to Day,” the year-end performance by the Concert Choir and Chamber Sings at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

The “Night Turns to Day” program will be sung twice at the college’s Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel. The first performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, and the second at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for Penn State Behrend faculty and staff, and $2 for students, and can be purchased in advance by calling 898-6242.

The performances will open with Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s “Messe de Minuit pour Noël” (Midnight Mass for Christmas), followed by Eric Whitacre’s “Sleep,” “Bogoroditse Devo” from Sergei Rachmaninoff's All Night Vigil, Glenn Rudolph’s “The Dream Isaiah Saw,” Joseph Martin’s “The Awakening,” and more.

The two choirs’ 52 student singers perform under the direction of Dr. Jason Bishop, the college’s director of choral activities.
