Dr. Marc S. Micozzi will present "Complementary and Integrative Medicine in Cancer Care and Prevention" and "The Practice of Integrative Medicine" on March 23 at 5:00 p.m.

"Complementary and Integrative Medicine in Cancer Care and Prevention" is designed to provide a comprehensive resource for students and practitioners on the evidence for and applications of complementary, alternative, and integrative medical therapies.

This is the first integrative oncology text for health professionals, and as such, it is essential reading for the incorporation of evidence-based practice into the care of patients with cancer and toward the prevention of cancer in the general population.

Dr. Micozzi has worked to foster communication and cooperation between mainstream and alternative medicine on issues of policy research and education. "The Practice of Integrative Medicine," which he co-authored, outlines the pitfalls, legal road-blocks, and benefits of bringing complementary and integrative medicine into daily health care routines.

Dr. Micozzi is a physician-anthropologist who has worked to create science-based tools for the health professions to be better informed and productively engaged in the new fields of complementary and alternative (CAM) and integrative medicine. He is the Founding Director of the Policy Institute for Integrative Medicine in Washington, DC, and a Senior Fellow of the Health Studies Collegium. He earned his M.D. and M.S. degree in epidemiology, concurrently, from Penn in 1979, and his Ph. D. in Anthropology from Penn in 1984. He currently serves on the Penn Medical Alumni Society Executive Committee. Dr. Micozzi is the author or co-author of many volumes including "Contemporary AyurVeda," "Consciousness and Healing," "Complementary and Integrative Medicine in Womens' Health," and "Fundamentals of Complementary and Integrative Medicine, 3rd edition."
