Formed in Poland at the behest of composer Krzysztof Penderecki, the globe-trotting foursome has performed repertoire stretching from Brahms to Zappa and premiered more than 100 new works. The ensemble makes a welcome return to Los Angeles with a program of contemporary string quartet literature enhanced with video: Veronika Krausas' Midaregami (Tangled Hair), featuring mezzo-soprano Jacqueline Bobak, with video by Robert Drummond; Arnold Schoenberg's Entrückung, also with Bobak; George Crumb's Black Angels; and Michael Gordon's Weather Part One, featuring the quartet and a dozen CalArts players on amplified strings accompanied by live electronics.
