Opening October 6, 2009, Peer into the Past: Historic Images of Fort Smith presents an eclectic collection of photographs and views rarely seen. Featuring selections from the McCann and Neff Collections, the exhibit will offer a glimpse into history. What can photographs tell us about our city’s past? For those who have lived here all their lives, these photographs offer a visual record of a growing and changing city. Some images are of structures no longer in existence except in the memories of long time local residents. See the Goldman Hotel in all its glory, the first “Pete’s Place” restaurant, the area once known as “Coke Hill” and the unique architecture of Union Station and the KWHN Building.

Learn about the history of photography and discover the ever-changing businesses and architecture in Fort Smith. Many of the images are reproduced from the original negatives for a first ever exhibition. View artifacts from the museum’s McCann Photography Studio Collection including cameras from different eras and advertisements.

This exhibit is sponsored by Bedford Camera and Video.
