Rethinking Business Relationships and Responsibilities

Four speakers:

1. Dorothy Atwood. Founder, Society of Sustainability Professionals
Dorothy Fisher Atwood has over 25 years of sustainability and environmental consulting experience. With a master’s degree in hydrogeology from Stanford University, Dorothy started her environmental career performing environmental clean-up related services. Since 1995, her work has focused on proactive environmental management and sustainability.

She is one of the founders of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (www.sustainabilityprofessionals.org) and serves on the Executive Management Team. She also serves as Zero Waste Alliance’s Program Manager for Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and has her own independent consultancy based in Portland, Oregon.

Her work includes development of implementation tools and procedures, training, and sustainability and environmental management system (including ISO 14001) integration into core business systems. She applies the management system framework to improve energy management, environmental performance, and progress toward sustainability.

2.Wayne Aho, VP, Global Sales, A-Dec
Headquartered in Newberg, Ore., A Dec is one of the largest dental equipment solutions providers in the world, with a global network of customers and authorized dealers in more than 100 countries. Founded in 1964, A Dec designs, builds, and markets dental chairs, stools, delivery systems, dental lights, cabinetry, and hand pieces.

Wayne began his career with A-Dec in 1977. Over the years he has assumed greater responsibility in sales management at A-Dec including positions as a territory manager, director of domestic sales and now Global Vice President of Sales.

As the global vice president, Wayne is responsible for defining and developing strategic global sales channels, managing a global sales staff, and defining strategic global marketing activities.

Wayne earned a bachelor of arts degree in business management from Western Kentucky University. He serves on the board of directors for the Dental Trade Alliance and is a past board member of Oral Health America.

3. Libby Evans, Development/Program Director, Sustainable Harvest
For generations, farmers did not know who purchased their coffee, how it tastes or it they would sell to the same buyer again.

Sustainable Harvest, a Portland based company is changing this cycle with the ‘Relationship Coffee’ trade model. Relationship Coffee is an alternative to the traditional coffee supply chain. It operates with complete transparency and brings coffee farmers, importers and roasters together on a level playing field. Sustainable Harvest invests about two-thirds of its operating expenses in training and services for farmers.

Libby Evans is the director of programs and Development at Sustainable Harvest. She is in charge of developing and implementing Sustainable Harvest Coffee importers development programs across the globe, including the Gombe Coffee Promotion Project--a six year quality improvement and market linkage project for coffee producers surrounding Gombe National Park in Western Tanzania.

Libby has received several fellowships from the Lilly Endowment and and Evelyn E.C. Richter Trust to study international development and conservation in Africa.

Libby is a graduate of Occidental College.

4. Scott Thomspon, Global IT Director, CH2M HILL
Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, CH2M HILL is a global engineer-procure-construct company offering a wide spectrum of expertise, knowledge, and services across varied industries and government agencies including water, transportation, energy, and industrial facilities. Founded in 1946 by three Oregon State graduates and their professor, the company now employs over 23,000 individuals with a gross revenue of over $6B.

CH2M is a Fortune 400 company, consistently ranked in Fortune’s Best Places to Work and recently was ranked as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute.

Scott began his career with CH2M HILL in 1997 and has assumed various roles in information management at CH2M including positions as New Technology Lead, CIO of Industrial Design, and now Global IT Director.

As the Global IT Director, Scott is responsible for Information Technology Operations for the Western US and Asia Pacific.

Scott earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from UC San Diego and a Master’s in Educational Technology from San Diego State University. He formerly worked for PCC as an IT Manager and currently serves on the board of directors for the Software Association of Oregon.
