Paul Neal is one of those well-rounded musicians who will pick up the instrument that’s missing in the combination and start playing it. That’s why, even though he’s a guitarist, he winds up playing upright bass quite often, including on Friday nights when accompanies poets during the open mic at Listen & Be Heard Poetry Cafée;. On Fridays he’s been stretching himself in new directions, taking flight in the freedom of unrehearsed accompaniment to words with melody and rhythm. But on Saturday, October 20 he will pick up his guitar, and along with his friends on bass, sax and keyboards, show us a different side of himself. We hope that you will come out to support the man who has been supporting the poets with a banging bass line these past few months.

The musicians for the night will be Paul Neal on Guitar, Shahien Shahkar on Bass, Robert Chefitz on Sax, Jesse Mesia is the keyboardist.

Paul Neal, has been playing guitar for almost 15 years. First playing with blues bands in Richmond and Oakland when he was only 13. Now plays with the Vallejo Community Jazz Band and is currently a staff musician for North Hills Church. Shahien Shahkar is one of the best bassists in the bay area. He has his performance degree from SFSU. Robert Chefitz, Saxophonist, is now studing compostion at UC Berkeley. And Jesse Mesia has studied and played piano and keys for many years and has a vast knowledge of music. All these musicians have taken classes together and played in various groups over the past six years.
