Acclaimed British pianist Paul Lewis begins a three-season, five-recital journey through the complete solo piano repertoire of Schubert at Symphony Center. Between 2005 and 2007, Lewis presented the complete piano works of Beethoven in recitals throughout the United Kingdom, receiving rave reviews and prestigious awards, and his recordings of Beethoven's complete Sonata cycle won unanimous international praise--making these Chicago recitals a must-see musical event. Lewis begins this extraordinary journey with two of Schubert's later works: the incomplete 'Sonata in C Major, D. 840,' known as the Reliquie because of the now disproven belief that it was Schubert's last composition, and 'Three Piano Pieces, D. 946,' written just six months before the composer's death. The concert ends with the technically demanding and relentlessly energetic 'Sonata in D Major, D. 850,' which, from beginning to end, tests the soloist's skill, concentration, and artistry.
