For those aching to hear the pure, lonesome tenor from the Appalachian siren of modern country, the wait is over. Patty Loveless returns to the road in September with the release of her 19th album Sleepless Nights and fall tour, which will take her across the United States through November.
With a great blend of honky tonk and country-rock, Patty Loveless is a well-recognized pioneer of the new traditionalist movement. During her start in the late 80s, her tracks were compared to those of Patsy Cline, but when she moved into the 90s, she began to make her own impression within the country music scene.
Born Patricia Lee Ramey, she received her first guitar at the age of eleven and began writing and singing music with her older brother at country jamborees in their home of Louisville, Kentucky. By her teenage years, she was playing weekend shows with Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton, and she became a featured vocalist in the Wilburn Brothers’ Band following her high school graduation. After some time, in 1985 she became a permanent resident of Nashville, Tennessee, and began recording with MCA records one year later. Loveless released her self-titled debut album in 1987, and everything took off from there. Her 20-year career boasts an impressive record of hits and exceptional talent.
A CMA Female Vocalist and Album of the Year winner, Loveless has consistently set a standard for what country music should be with platinum CDs and chart-topping songs. In a world growing more complex, and at the same time more superficial, it takes some digging to find what's real. It's not always neat and tidy, but it is profound. For Loveless, that's the essence of her role as a country music singer.
Patty puts it simply, from the heart: “If I can just be a little part of touching lives through music, that’s wonderful. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Just like the people who touched my life.”
