There are nites that come and go, and then there are clubnites. They’re called clubnites not just because they’re held in niteclubs, but because the people that go there to P.A.R.T.Y. under one roof share sumthin in common + whatever race, faith or creed, they’re all there to catch vibez. Some jus come to dance while others come to listen, some raid their wardrobes, flex the latest gears, others are there elegantly slumming it – but whether you’re a wallflower or a dancer, whether you’re flirting or propping up the bar, whether you’re a tastemaker or a trainspotter, a top shotta or a beatmaker, the club is where we all come together, where we hangup-our-hangups and feel a part of something bigger than ourselves.
It’s this ethic that’s been behind clubs like Body & Soul in New York and Soul II Soul at the Africa Centre; from the Shrine in Lagos, to Norman Jay’s Original Rare Groove Show at the Bass Clef; from the Warehouse in Motor City, Detroit to the irrepressible Co-Op sessions in the heart of LDN town.
With a brand new night in Elephant & Castle (or ‘South Central’ if you work at Foxtons), Patterns takes up the gauntlet, bringing to you some of the emerging faces on the London scene, a night where a new generation of producers rinse their latest CD-Rs as well as go back in the day to unearth forgotten classics. On the mic, we’ve already lined up some mind-blowing voices to take you on a musical journey to the future and beyond.
Like they say in Carlito’s Way, “If you can’t see the Patterns no more, you’re in trouble.” Feel the Patterns, feel the Spirit. You’ll be leaving with a smile on your face.
