This event is free and open to the public. Patrick McGrath will read from his works.

Patrick McGrath is the author of two story collections and six novels, often in a Gothic mode. These include Port Mungo, Dr. Haggard’s Disease, and Spider, which was made into a movie (2002) from his screenplay. His novel Asylum was shortlisted for both the Whitbread and the Guardian Fiction Prizes in Britain and was made into a motion picture in 2005. Martha Peake: A Novel of the Revolution (2000) won Italy’s Premio Flaiano Prize. His most recent book is Ghost Town: Tales of Manhattan Then and Now. He is also the co-editor of a collection of short fiction, The New Gothic, and has one other produced screenplay to his credit, an adaptation of his novel The Grotesque. McGrath was born in London in 1950, and he grew up on the grounds of Broadmoor Hospital, Britain's largest top-security institution for mentally ill offenders, where for twenty-five years his father was medical superintendent.
