Pathways to Shostakovich September 19, 2006

Pathways to Shostakovich – a song recital sponsored in part by the Russian Speaker’s Society of Austin, will be presented in honor of Dmitri Shostakovich’s legacy and works. Elizabeth Pétillot, Mezzo-soprano, and Michelle Schumann, pianist, will collaborate on works by Mahler, Britten, Glazunov, Mussorgsky and Shostakovich, highlighting through discussion and performance some of the most significant compositional influences of this revolutionary soviet era composer. The recital will take place at St. David’s Episcopal Church on 7th and San Jacinto on Tuesday, September 19th at 8pm. This event is in conjunction with Austin Lyric Opera’s Shostakovich centennial celebration, www.shostakovich100.org, and occurs during the composer’s birthday week.
