"While all of NAMI Washtenaw County activities mean a lot to me (I have a loved one who fights every day to live with dignity despite her serious brain illness.), last year's Paths to Recovery Conference stands out as being helpful and energizing. Quite a few people attended - over 125 - and throughout the day, as I heard the stories of people living with serious brain illnesses and their loved ones, I realized that these people are the real experts. There is so much need to educate, support, and advocate for people living with severe and persistent brain illnesses and their loved ones. It was heartening to hear the powerful messages delivered by the keynote speakers and to experience the relevance and quality of the presentations, the presenters, and the information tables. The Paths to Recovery Conference assured me that there are many in our community who care and who do their best under difficult circumstances. The conference also assured me that NAMI WC remains steadfast in its mission and powerful as a helping resource in our community. I left last year's conference feeling more optimistic, more hopeful, and stronger."
