Market Street Gallery is very ecstatic to announce Paste; a solo exhibition by popular local San Francisco artist, Denise Fiedler, a collection of her latest mix-media, collage works which illustrates a vintage point of view on common, every day subject matter. The exhibit will open November 1, 2012, and run through December 28, 2012. The artist reception will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012, from 6 PM - 8 PM.

In her own words; artist statement by Denise Fiedler:

"I started making collages in 2009 after working with textiles for many, many years. My fascination with texture found it's way from embroidered silks to the simple beauty of an aged and weathered page of a vintage book--this was how my "cut and sew" became "cut and paste".

Two-dimensional singular representational work stemmed from my visceral attraction to graphic images and design. Collage always had appeal for it is serendipity and coming together of unlikely suspects. Cutting is a natural extension of drawing, a practice I have had since I can remember.

My mixed media pieces started out small and gradually grew larger in scale. A very lucky find of old (1943) French newspapers, bound together, helped to accommodate my new larger scaled works as well as patching-something else borrowed from the fiber world.

Gradually antique and vintage ephemera often found in flea markets, including labels, Dresden trim, documents, calligraphy, stamps and postal markings found their way into the work to become punctuating parts of a piece.
The exhibiting body of work includes my latest pieces inspired by themes of the natural world and ordinary things you might see on the street. Dogs, birds, spider webs, leaves, architecture, bikes, umbrellas, etc. i also have a fascination with fanciful imagery such as cakes, Marie Antoinette and necklaces that are explored in this show."
