In 1974, American R&B legends James Brown, B.B. King, Bill Withers, and salsa queen Celia Cruz, among others, flew to Kinshasa, DRC (formerly known as Zaire) to perform with African music superstars for a spectacular performance series dubbed “Zaire ‘74.” This one-of-a-kind festival happened alongside the Muhammad Ali-George Foreman prizefight known as “The Rumble in the Jungle.” Soul Power shows musical artists inspired by a return to their African roots as well as the heartfelt enthusiasm of the Congolese audience. (2008, 93 min. Rated PG-13.)

“If you have any knowledge of these musicians, you will by now have stopped reading and gone off to this extravagantly entertaining documentary…” —The New York Times
