The Girl's Summer Camp, led by well-known singer-songwriter Bonnie Hayes, teaches musicianship, performance skills and team-building to give girls (age 11 to 19) the confidence theyll need to play music and connect with others this summer.

"WomenROCK is proud to support the girl's summer camp and raise funds for scholarships, instruments and curriculum development, said Valerie Orth, co-founder of WomenROCK and former Blue Bear student. "We are excited to have the opportunity to support female musicians of all ages in an industry dominated by men."

Supporters can also donate funds directly to The Girls Summer Camp at Blue Bear School of Music (http://www.bluebearmusic.org).

WomenROCK (http://www.myspace.com/womenrockmusic) is a collective of Bay Area female musicians that, since its formation a year-and-a-half ago, have produced a number of successful concerts to raise funds for local non-profits and raise awareness of issues such as breast cancer and violence against women.

All the bands performing in the Jan. 5 benefit are members of WomenROCK and bring a distinct style to the stage.

About the bands
MAKING DINNER - Hot and fresh out of the oven after cooking up their East Coast Feast Tour in Boston and New York, Making Dinner is an all-female San Francisco favorite that has been labeled indie, folk, and pop. Making Dinner takes over the stage the way the smell of cookies baking takes over a kitchen. With a CD of all new songs by Eva Jo, the band's frontwoman (now available in pre-release at www.makingdinnertheband.com), fans love coming out to sing-a-long with the tasty lyrics and finger-licking beets, er, beats! Stirring guitar, keys, cello, violin, bass, drums, banjo, sax, trumpet, flute, and clogs together, you never know what recipes will be cooked up next. Members of Making Dinner are Genevieve Coyle, Zarah Gamaldi, Marianka Madey, Eva Jo Meyers, Katie Pilat, and Devorah Rosner.
VALERIE ORTH BAND - "Known as much for her stage presence as for her rock-tinged folk music, San Francisco singer/songwriter Valerie Orth captivates the crowd... [She is] soulful, genuine, and edgy," writes the San Francisco Bay Guardian. Add Abigail Picache on drums and Bob Sanders on bass, and you've got a dynamic rock trio whose rhythms stop just when you get comfortable and pull you back just when you thought you'd been dropped. Their melodies and phrases will catch in your brain and stay there humming to you for days. And if you listen beyond their beauty, you'll come away scarred and stronger. Off-stage, Orth matches her musical capacity with a passion for activism and community involvement. She is a co-founder of WomenROCK and long-time grassroots organizer locally and nationally.

BERNADETTE - The eponymous singer, songwriter and artist, 'bernadette' layers sultry, intoxicating vocals over an all-star cast of players, Jordan Feinstein of The Ritual on keys, Garrin Benfield on guitar and the in-the-pocket, female rhythm section of London Street. This past year, she has played at The Independent, Slim's, Cafe DuNord, 12 Galaxies and festivals around the bay. Bernadette has studied music at Blue Bear School of music, a school that inspired her to take the stage by storm and helped her cultivate the idea to put together the women's music collective, WomenROCK.
