Callithump Presents "New Music Tuesday" featuring Paper Airplanes, ad astra per aspera, Program & Tzar Bomba. $4, 17+ welcome! Drink specials all night!

Not many bands make return appearances on New Music Tuesday, as we try to keep trying to offer something "New". An exception is being made when we had the opportunity to book Paper Airplanes , out of Wichita again. The audience & I were blown away at how good they were. Come see for yourself!
From Paper Airplanes Pitch review: " Paper Airplanes, a six-piece whose roots to outsiders might seem closer to a place like Montreal than the 'Ta. Led by vocalist Marcus Stoetz, who often sounds like a more creative Brandon Flowers, the band's influences range from the Beach Boys to the Arcade Fire. Starting with basic prog-pop structures, the band's songs develop and flourish with the use of a variety of strings, banjos and looped vocals. The effect is surprising and beautiful."
From Lawrence Journal-World review of Ad Astra Per Aspera: "The band Ad Astra Per Aspera shares more than just its name with the Kansas state motto. "To the stars through difficulties" has become something of a personal credo for the Lawrence five-piece.
"In the beginning we chose the name mostly because we like the way it sounded--and us all being from Kansas was important as a Kansas pride thing," says Julie Noyce, keyboardist/vocalist for Ad Astra Per Aspera. "But now that we're well into being a band together, we've discovered there are some difficulties involved. Now it's indicative of a struggle--or maybe a process--of doing what you want to do and making music the way you want to make it."
So far the group has succeeded in crafting a sound far removed from that of other acts that fall under the umbrella of Lawrence's indie rock scene. By blending male/female harmonies with eccentric grooves, experimental textures and arrangements complicated enough to rival the progressive rock acts of the '70s, the evolving ensemble can't help but stick out."
They'll be joined by Houston bands, Program & Tzar Bomba!
