Water Colour Maestro Shyamal Sen brings his latest collection of works 'Flowers'. Shyamal Sen's paintings are all about light. Something that particularly excites a viewe about transparent watercolors is the way in which light is expressed. In contrast to other media, the effects of light are not painted. They are revealed. That is to say, in transparent watercolors available light reflecting off the artist's painting surface is what creates the sense of luminosity. The artist leaves the white of the background material, or tints it in various ways, providing value contrasts, setting up color relationships, and letting colors blend. Taken together, these brush strokes reveal the moment, character, and effect of light. Shyamal Sen a contemporary of Ganesh Pyne, Ganesh Haloi, Suchibrata Deb was a late entrant into the world of paintings, but within a short span has carved a niche for himself in the world of arts. He practices one of the most difficult forms of paintings ie; Transparent Watercolours. One of the few such artistes, Shyamal Sen is today one of the most sought after artistes of water colours. Nature and human beings remains his subject of the vast body of work and he excels in the form. The 15 paintings on water colour on display will bear witness to the fact that nature appeals to him in its beautiful splendour. We find expression of infinity in his paintings. As a landscape painter must always have two great and distinct ends: the first to induce in the spectator's mind the faithful conception of any natural objects whatsoever; the second, to guide the spectator's mind to those objects most worthy of contemplation, and to inform him of the thoughts and feelings with which these were regarded by the artist himself. Shyamal Sen's paintings evoke such expressions. He gives the uncertainty; the palpitating, perpetual change; . . . the unity of action with infinity of agent. His art is a conversation with himself and also with the nature around him to institute a form in the formlessness Force, dynamism and lyricism are the salient features that he brings out through his treatment, thereby unfolding the mystery dormant in the life and nature. Transforming the nature into mystery is the essence of his paintings. In most cases, when he reaches the goal, he presents pleasing enchantment for himself and his spectators.
