Originating in the Himalayans, traditionally Tibetan artwork is painted on cloth, mounted on silk in rolled up form for easy transportation. The paint is drawn from the earth and has added pigments to give it a unique texture and strong color. The iconography deals with images and symbols from the Buddhist religion.

This unique class is run by Lobsang Gyatso, a former Buddhist monk and refugee from his native Tibet. In 1991 he escaped Tibet to India, where he met his American wife Toni. Together they moved to Eugene, where he runs the store ?Key to Tibet? and paints his unique artwork on paper, some in the traditional style, most in his own personal interpretation introducing images from his surrounding and culture.

Drawing off his heritage and culture, Lobsang Gyatso will teach the craft of traditional Tibetan paintings using watercolor and paper as well as give an introduction to the traditional symbolism.
