The Iliad is the oldest epic poem in Western literature and tells the story of the siege of Troy some 3,000 years ago. While the weapons are different, the psychological effect of war is the same: throughout history, men and women have both suffered emotional as well as physical trauma from the violence created by warfare and its aftermath. Kathy Gaca, Associate Professor of Classics at Vanderbilt University, moderates these stimulating discussions, followed by light refreshments.
