Pacific Chamber Symphony begins the new year on February 25th with a concert featuring the Pied Piper of Hollywood, flutist Sheridon Stokes.

Sheridon Stokes is the "go to guy" when a film or television score includes a solo flute. He has been featured in many television and film scores, including the television series "Mission Impossible," "Roots," and "Kung Fu," as well as the films "Jaws," "E.T.," "Ghost," "Glory," "Patriot Games," "Sneakers," "Scent of a Woman," "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle," and more recently, "Mission Impossible," "Waterworld," "Jumanji," "Independence Day," "Spitfire Grill," "Rush Hour II", and "Bringing Down The House". He was solo flute at the Academy Awards in 1997 and 1998 and played the famous penny whistle solo from the Titanic song "My Heart Will Go On" with Celine Dion.

PCS' own principal flutist Janet Ketchum joins Mr. Stokes in the spotlight in a duet for two flutes and strings. Ms. Ketchum will also be the featured soloist in Vivaldi's "La Notte" concerto. Janet Ketchum has enjoyed a varied career in music. As a performer, she was principal flutist with SF Ballet and SF Contemporary Music Players for over 12 years and solo recitalist with grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and California Council on the Arts for 14 years. She has been the principal flutist with Pacific Chamber Symphony for the past 18 years.

A highlight of the program will be the world premiere of a work by contemporary composer Christopher Caliendo; World Music Serenade No. 1 for flute, harp percussion and strings. (PCS thanks Susan DuPree and Hollis Bascomb for sponsoring this work).

The works for flute will be bracketed by the tender "Adagiatto" from Mahler's Symphony #5, and Tchaikovsky's popular "Serenade for Strings" (sometimes known as "The Other Nutcracker".)
