Marion Carnegie Library is proud to offer best-selling and classic audiobooks and eBooks available 24/7 from a link on the library’s website (www.marioncarnegielibrary.org), or directly at http://SIlibraries.lib.overdrive.com. Now come to the library for training to answer all of your questions about this exciting new technology. Walk-in training will be offered on Tuesday, September 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. and on Thursday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants are asked to bring their wi-fi capable laptop, portable device (Nook, I-Pod, MP3 player) and connecting cable if they have specific questions about their equipment.

You can browse the collection, check out with your library card and download to PC, Mac® and many mobile devices (not including Amazon’s Kindle). To get started, you will need to install free software. For audiobooks, music and video: OverDrive® Media Console™. To read eBooks, you’ll need Adobe® Digital Editions. Titles can be enjoyed immediately or transferred to a variety of devices, including iPod®, Sony® Reader™ and many others. Some audio titles can also be burned to CD to listen on-the-go. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees! This new service, powered by OverDrive, is free with your MCL library card. To get started downloading audiobooks, eBooks and more, visit http://SIlibraries.lib.overdrive.com.

According to a Marion Carnegie Library patron, “I accessed the website from my computer and in about 10 minutes, I’d downloaded the free software and had checked out an eBook. Anyone who uses the Internet shouldn’t have a problem with the technology.”

Local libraries offering downloadable audiobooks and eBooks include Herrin, Mascoutah and Mt. Vernon. Beginning in November, Robinson and Salem will be joining those offering the service.
