"Dreamy, literate folk-rock"

Over the Rhine is the Cincinnati duo of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist, augmented by other musicians as needed. Their ethereal sounds have drawn comparisons to the likes of U2, and the Cowboy Junkies are stalwart fans. They have a core of admirers in its hometown that has stuck with them for 15 years now, and they recorded for the seminal indie rock label IRS in the 1990s. Their songs are dreamy, sweeping, highly literate, and melancholy. Some listeners have told Over the Rhine that their music mixes mysticism and eroticism. Says Leslie Benson of the Dayton City Paper: "The music of Cincinnati-based folk/roots band Over the Rhine seeps into you with a rich hunger--each note a separate, glimmering cloud-diamond." Over the Rhine was the Saturday night sub-headliner at the 2007 Ann Arbor Folk Festival.
