Outreach Workshop - Zion, North Highlands, CA - February 1

 

Learn and practice a non-threatening way to discover and address the needs of the neighborhood outside your church door in a one day.

When: Friday, February 1, 6:30 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. and Saturday, February 2, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m, 2008.

Where: Zion Lutheran Church, 3644 Bolivar Ave., North Highlands, CA.

Workshop Leader: Rev. Carlos Hernandez, STM, Director, Districts and Congregations, LCMS World Relief and Human Care. Carlos will preach at Zion, Sunday, February 3 at the 8:00am and 10:45am services. Between service he will lead a Bible study on Christian mercy.

The workshop will include:

Specific methods to help your congregation grow from an "Island" congregation, perhaps unaware of the needs and opportunities for outreach in its neighborhood, to a congregation that is "enmeshed," in its community, identifying and addressing critical, unmet, human care needs and growing!

 

Learn and practice a low-key yet effective interview process for neighborhood visits that offer opportunities to share the gospel.

How to build partnerships with community agencies, schools and other organizations in your neighborhood that know its needs and how to address them.

 

You will learn how to build important community connections that open doors to new ministry opportunities.

 

Explore opportunities to develop a peer network with other area congregations. In a Planting Gospel Seeds network, participants share interview results in an on-going series of "working and learning" sessions.

 

A valuable demographic study. Glean information about your community: Is your community projected to grow? Do you have more older adults or families with young children? Facts about the ethnic backgrounds, education levels, and median income help shape ministry plans.

Follow up consultation is offered to participating congregations for the development of ministry plans and the resources to fund them!
