Other Minds 15th New Music Festival March 6, 2010

Nine international composers—Natasha Barrett (Norway), Lisa Bielawa (USA), Chou Wen-chung (China / USA), Jürg Frey (Switzerland), Tom Johnson (France / USA), Kidd Jordan (USA), Carla Kihlstedt (USA), Pawel Mykietyn (Poland), Gyan Riley (USA). Featured performers—Quatuor Bozzini (Montreal), Del Sol String Quartet, ROVA Saxophone Quartet, William Parker (bass), Gyan Riley Trio with Michael Manring (bass).

The 15th Other Minds Music Festival (OM 15) brings together nine of the most exciting and innovative composers from around the world for concerts and artist talks. The Festival continues its annual tradition of bringing together in conversation and concert the most creative voices from across the musical spectrum.

The concert presentations include world premiere performances of two new works: Carla Kihlstedt’s Pandæmonium, and When Heron Sings Blue by Gyan Riley, a piece commissioned by Other Minds. Other highlights include Epiphora for piano and tape by Mykietyn, an award-winning work that begins with the sound of an atomic detonation, and Bielawa’s arresting Kafka Songs, to be performed by violinist-vocalist Carla Kihlstedt (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Tin Hat Trio, Two Foot Yard).
