The fifth of the series of family-friendly, multi-cultural outdoor concerts brings violins and flutes weaving lilting melodies against the backdrop of driving Afro-Cuban rhythms. From the first note, you'll want to jump out of your seat. The orchestra's repertoire ranges from traditional Danzon and Cha-Cha-Cha to the latest salsa and timba grooves with surprising twists: you should hear their spin on the old church tune "Golden Slippers." As one critic put it: "Imagine a blend of Tito Puente and a tango, and you'll begin to get an idea of the power and beauty of this music."

The dance floor will be set, a pre-event Latin dance instruction will get you in the mood and, cocktails, dinners from Sol Food available on-site, dancing, and playground makes for fun for the whole family. All outdoors under Marin skies. The night is filled with possibilities and music is just right for dancing.

When performing their traditional repertoire, Orquesta La Moderna Tradicion transports you to an era of sensual danzones and swinging cha-chas - the music of the Havana social clubs of the 1950s. The only band in the United States that specializes in Cuban danzon, the 12-piece ensemble captures the romance and style of a memorable era in Cuban dance music. When playing their own brand of modern charanga, with a blazing rhythm section and swinging strings along with the fine tuned vocals of Herrera, the Orquesta has people cutting the rug at festivals, night clubs and parties.

Orquesta La Moderna Tradicion has performed at some of the most prestigious festivals and venues in the United States, including Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing, San Francisco Jazz Festival, and the Smithsonian Institution - their tours have taken them from Alaska to El Paso and abroad.
