Holy Rosary Cathedral presents Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin – from Saint-Sulpice in Paris – in concert with the 2889 pipes of the Cathedral organ. Cauchefer-Choplin’s recital begins with the music of Denis Bédard, Holy Rosary’s own resident organist, then moves on to works by J.S. Bach, Mendelssohn, Dubois, Widor and Ropartz before ending with one of her own award-winning improvisations on a given theme. Recital attendees will see all the action as well as hear it, as each performance is simulcast on a giant screen at the front of the Cathedral. Ms. Cauchefer-Choplin performs at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 11 at Holy Rosary Cathedral, Dunsmuir at Richards in Vancouver.

Sophie-Véronique Cauchefer-Choplin is one of France’s leading organists and the first woman to win an improvisation prize at the Chartres International Organ Competition. She maintains a busy concert schedule throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.

Cauchefer-Choplin’s programme at Holy Rosary Cathedral begins with Denis Bédard’s Adagio, and continues with J. S. Bach’s Fantasia in G Major, Felix Mendelssohn’s Prelude et Fugue in D Minor, and Theodore Dubois’ Tocatta. The second half begins with Widor’s Adagio, followed by Ropartz’s Prelude Funebre, and Denis Bédard’s Suite before ending with Cauchefer-Choplin’s own brilliant improvisation on a given theme.
This recital is possible due to the generous assistance of the French General Consulate in Vancouver, co-producers of the event.
