Opera Atelier's season resumes with the Canadian premiere of C.W. Gluck's 1774 version of Orpheus and Eurydice.

Always on the cutting edge of fashion and art, Marie Antoinette introduced Gluck to France where he gained immediate popularity with the young and en vogue of the French Court. While those with a more traditional view of opera were skeptical at first, the forward-looking Gluck was able to win over the skeptics with Orpheus and Eurydice, an opera that was truly ahead of its time.

Opera Atelier will take audiences on a heartfelt journey that showcases Orpheus' undying devotion and perseverance as he undertakes the task of retrieving Eurydice from the depth of Hades. With mystical set designs of the underworld and alluring music, this premiere performance is sure to entice audiences from beginning to end.
