Danger, eroticism, madness and potential murder hang in the air one dark and stormy night at the House of Usher—or is it all an illusion? This operatic thriller, based on the 19th century gothic short story The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe, is a Nashville Opera and Tennessee premiere, and one not to be missed! Join John Hoomes, artistic director of Nashville Opera, for a reading and comparative discussion of how this classic story was transformed for the stage with atmospheric music by renowned composer Phillip Glass, whose operas include Einstein on the Beach (1976) and Appomattox (2007) and film scores for The Hours (2002) and Notes on a Scandal (2006), and libretto by Caldecott medalist Arthur Yorinks. Discount coupons for Nashville Opera’s production of The Fall of the House of Usher, Nov. 13-15 at TPAC will be available at the event. Enter the drawing for free tickets, too! Feel free to bring a lunch!
