Come join us at the Las Cruces Museum of Natural History for a botanical adventure that engages families in an exploration of plants that are a part of everyday life! The exhibition Wild About Plants lets families touch, smell, magnify, build, watch & listen to plants – uncovering what they do for people and what people can do for them.

Science enthusiast Flora Wild opens her home to visitors encouraging them to learn about plants. Would you like to know “What’s for dinner”? Visit Ms. Wild’s kitchen and learn how plants are turned into finished meals. In addition to food, Ms. Wild’s pantry also includes a wide variety of plants used to make medicines, toiletries & first-aid products.

In the “outdoor” garden, visitors are encouraged to explore plants in an urban environment and learn about the complex relationship between plants and animals. Families are invited to interact with plants in our puppet theatre, grow like a seed with our interactive growing area and build a plant friendly city.

In addition to the exhibition, the Las Cruces Museum of Natural History will be running several plant experiments exhibiting various plant traits and we will also include information about the plants that are unique to the Chihuahuan Desert. Come and learn what makes our desert home the unique and wonderful place that it is!

Join the Las Cruces Museum of Natural History as we unveil our newest traveling exhibit, Wild About Plants! We will be hosting an opening reception on Friday, January 16, 2009, from 6 – 8 pm with food, drinks, and hands-on activities for the kids (or adults!).

Wild About Plants was developed by the Brooklyn Children’s Museum with major funding from the National Science Foundation.
