Scoli Acosta: Bountiful
January 19 through March 1, 2008
LAXART Gallery, Billboard Project, La Cienega Blvd between Venice and Washington Blvds.

Opening Reception: January 19, 7-9pm. Special walk through with LACMA's assistant curator Rita Gonzalez.

LAXART presents Scoli Acosta's first solo exhibition in Los Angeles. Acosta's work stems from small academic studies such as his interest in 19th century French Romantic novelist Gerard de Neval and develop into larger and more complicated relationships that inspire his photography, sculptural installations and performances. As a result of fully immersing himself in these ideologies, his work reflects a highly personalized iconography. Scoli Acosta was born in 1973 in Los Angeles where he continues to reside and work today. He received his BA at the Kansas City Art Institute in 1994 and his MFA from the Ultimate Akademie in Colonge, Germany in 1997. Recent solo exhibitions include the ...Day was to Fall as Night was to Break..., Daniel Reich Gallery, New York (2006) and Follow me a Fantasy, Arena 1 Gallery, Los Angeles (2005). Group exhibitions include the 2007 Montreal Biennial, Montreal, Canada, the 2006 California Biennial,Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach and Big Well, LISTE 2005, Basel Switzerland.
