Join BAVC for the opening reception for "ROHSTOFF VII - Behind the Mediamaker" on May 12th, 6-8pm.

Residents of a post-Katrina New Orleans neighborhood fighting for their newly re-built community a second time; a young Tlinglit Indian forced to confront the dichotomy between his life and his tribe's history; a year in the life of an undocumented Mexican immigrant living and working in a tack room on a California racetrack; and a group of blind teenagers traveling to the South to learn from a master musician how to use music to confront life's challenges: these are just a few of the powerful stories that BAVC's MediaMaker Award recipients have told in the past few years. Using these films as a starting point, our latest Rohstoff exhibition freezes the frame and ventures behind the camera to get the story behind the storytelling.

Featuring production photographs and stills from past MediaMaker Award recipients Banker White ( We Own TV), Gabrielle Mullem ( The Music's Gonna Get You Through), S. Leo Chiang ( A Village Called Versailles), Yoav Potash ( Crime After Crime), Scott Pearson ( The Russell City Blues), Sara MacPherson and Tricia Creason Valencia ( Stable Life), Marcia Jarmel ( Speaking in Tongues), Valerie Soe ( The Oak Park Story), Luke Griswold-Turgis ( Salmon Dreams) and Chris Metzler ( Everyday Sunshine).
