The Las Cruces Museum of Natural History invites the public to the opening of its newest traveling exhibition, A View From Space, on Friday, January 29, 2010, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Mesilla Valley Mall. This exhibition comes to Las Cruces from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI).

Since the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik in 1957, satellites have dramatically changed the way we study our planet. A View from Space gives museum visitors a chance to see the world from the perspective of a satellite. In this highly interactive, hands-on science exhibit, visitors will track a hurricane from space, send a satellite spinning into orbit around a model Earth, study astonishing images of our planet captured by NASA's Earth Observing System, and more.

A View from Space is designed to introduce visitors to the latest and greatest Earth observing satellites and give them an appreciation for the value of studying Earth from space. Visitors will be challenged to become scientists, study satellite images, and try to answer important questions about the workings of our dynamic planet.

The Museum of Natural History strives to inspire curiosity about the sciences, facilitate life-long learning, and promote stewardship of the natural environment of the Chihuahuan desert and southern New Mexico.

If you need accommodation for a disability to enable you to fully participate in this event please contact the museum 48 hours before the event at (575) 522-3120.
