To build a platform where-by we can enable India, and Asia, to lead in
the development and adoption of Open Source software solutions.
What started off as LinuxAsia in 2003, got renamed to Open Source India
in 2008. The change in name reflected the increased maturity of the
open source business model, and the growing popularity of the open
source phenomenon in India.
India's premier open source conference - Open Source India - used to be
held every spring in New Delhi. Open Source India had become a dynamic
meeting ground for leaders from the international community and the
Indian government, industry, enterprise users, academia and open source
community.
Open Source India is organised by the 'Forum for Open Source Initiatives in India' or FOSII (pronounced foss-eye).
FOSII comprises individuals from various walks of the Linux/OSS
ecosystem including the industry, academia, media, government, users
and the developer community. What binds them together is their deep
interest in driving innovation in and adoption of open source
principles, practices and software in India.
The whole idea of OSI Days got invented because of the need to -

Promote usage of Open Source platforms and tools for software development

Update software developers with the latest trends, technologies and best practices from the open source world

Accelerate implementation of Open Source powered IT solutions

Equip IT managers with latest open source solutions and best practices

Target Audience
The 2009 edition has a strong flavor of technology in itthus the
addition of the word "Tech Days". The target audience of OSI Tech Days
09 will be (1) IT Managers and (2) Software Developers, who in turn
will represent the needs of Indias varied industry segments. Do
remember to check out the schedule of the events to help you plan your
