The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is hosting an open house this Monday (May 19), giving the Boise public the chance to review and comment on the proposed wolf hunting season.

It is very important that you make it to this meeting if you can. This will likely be the only public hearing on the proposed wolf hunt plan where Boise-area wildlife supporters can speak out for sound management of Idaho's wolves.

Some of the worst proposals being considered…

* One of the proposed hunting seasons is 7 months long, one of the longest hunting seasons for a big game animal in the state. This could result in four-month old pups being shot, or left without adult wolves to feed and protect them.

* Idaho Fish and Game now plans to reduce the Idaho wolf population by 39% or more. Such aggressive targets threaten the long-term survival of wolves.

* Under the proposed plan, hunters are not prohibited from using aerial telemetry tracking devices to track and kill wolves.
