The Young People’s Chorus of Erie will audition potential new members during the first week of January.

Auditions and entrance interviews will be held by appointment each day between Monday, Jan. 3, and Friday, Jan. 7, in the Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

YPC Erie membership is open to all youth ages 7-18 who demonstrate the ability to match pitch and have a genuine interest in singing. It is an outreach program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn Behrend, and the first affiliate of the famed Young People’s Chorus of New York City.

YPC Erie’s four choirs—Cantare, Concert, Chorale, and Young Men—perform under the direction of Dr. Jason Bishop, YPC artistic director, and Melissa Heitzenrater-Beichner. Spring events on the YPC Erie calendar include singing at the Erie Philharmonic’s “Broadway Legends: Rodgers & Hammerstein” Valentine’s Pops on Feb. 12, in The Flourishing Child Series at Mercyhurst College on Feb. 15, and for YPC Erie’s own spring concert at the Warner Theatre on May 6. In addition, YPC Erie will host the three-day Lake Erie Regional Choral Competition at Penn State Behrend on April 8-10.

Audition appointments can be made by calling the YPC Erie administrative office at 814-898-6789. For more information about YPC Erie, visit ypcerie.org.
