On Saturday, May 21st, join the Powell Street Festival Society in celebrating Vancouver Asian Heritage Month with a powerful concert combining both local and international contemporary taiko drumming, Indian folk music and more at an unbeatable price! Having performed in Vancouver only once before, Seattle-based One World Taiko incorporates dynamic movement, lyrical melodies and rhythmic grooves with heart pounding percussion. Their music is drawn from Japan's ancient tradition of lively and spirited festival drumming and One World Taiko's own creative rhythms, arrangements and choreography, adding a modern spirit to the ancient art of taiko. Formed in 1990, the four-piece (taiko, percussion, flute, koto) perform repertoire that includes traditional pieces taught to them by Ondekoza and Kodo and their own original compositions infused with contemporary rhythms from their love of jazz and world music.

Also featured in this concert are local taiko sensations Sawagi Taiko, Canada's first all-women, all-Asian taiko group; and Vancouver-based Vishwa, who perform a combination of Indian and western classical and folk music.
