ONE LAST THING FEST
(Misty Lyn CD Release Show!)
Saturday 12/6 -- 7PM -- MUB Commons

Admission is FREE if you bring some non-perishable food items. Otherwise, $5 donations will be accepted at the door and will be delivered with the non-perishables. Food is preferable.

Houghton's Community Action Center, which aims to alleviate hunger in the Keweenaw by providing food to those in need, is currently at the lowest supply levels it's experienced in the past 10 years, and is desperately in need of donations. I'll be accepting as many non-perishable food items as you can deliver to the show. Here's your chance to do a small favor for an organization that needs it. SANTA IS WATCHING.

On the music end of things, Misty Lyn will be releasing her long-time-coming (and absolutely gorgeous) album, Chris Bathgate is BACK, and Matt Jones is BACK (again). We will be starting things earlier than usual so we can party down on Blanche St. and I can exchange high fives with everybody before I'm off to NYC.

December 6th will mark Misty Lyn’s second return to Houghton since her jaw-dropping Keweenawesomefest performance. This time she comes accompanied by a gang of talented musicians (including some familiar faces), making her fresh even to those who attended her past shows. For newcomers: while cut from the same cloth as many of the other Ann Arbor area folk acts, Misty sets herself apart from the rest by tempering her saccharine melodies with unabashed alt-country twang. Her gothic lyrics are peppered with harmonies from none other than Matt Jones, and give way to brilliant pedal steel guitar and fiddle solos, which add a rootsy spirit to her songs. Few songwriters carry such a big sound this far north; we are in for a good night.

Video:
An earnest/overwhelming/apocalyptic/intimate/prolific singer-songwriter rivaled only by Matt Jones for cryptic lyrics/hearthrobbyness/Houghton shows per year.

"If Bathgate has mastered one thing in his young and enormously promising career, it's the art of distilling alienation into bruised-sounding beauty."--NPR (Song of the Day)

"You'd be misguided to pass up a performance or purchase."--Billboard

"Very impressive... an album that finds hard won triumph in the darkest of circumstances"--CLASH

"In the saturated parade of indie singer-songwriters, Michigan native Chris Bathgate carries enough bleak, brooding identity to gain attention beyond the Sufjan Stevens crowd."--The Onion AV Club

"It's the unexpected ways he fleshes out the heartache in his voice that makes this album such a melancholy treasure"--HARP Magazine

"Best Solo Artist: Make no bones about it, Chris Bathgate writes extremely smart and beautiful indie folk pop.” --Real Detroit Weekly

Why oh why, do we get to have him twice in two months? Our ears will rejoice, as our livers say their prayers.

“Some rare singers have the gift to captivate at first notes, this is Matt Jone’s case. But this initial attraction is progressively converted into a complete addiction as Matt is offering more than just a great songwriting ability.” –-YOUCRAZYDREAMERS.COM
