OMSI After Dark, with a costume contest! October 28, 2009

OMSI After Dark is an opportunity for the 21-and-over crowd to explore the museum in a child-free environment. Here's your chance to shoot off water rockets, play with robots, and enjoy the wonders of OMSI with no kids in sight! Enjoy a glass of wine or a pint of local beer while learning about electricity, tornados, and fossils, or taste and learn the science behind food and beverage favorites with local artisans. The OMSI Market Cafe will be open and cash bars will also be available for those who want more than just a taste!

Explore our new featured exhibit Scream! Featuring Goose Bumps! The Science of Fear and find out why our hearts race, our knees shake, and our bodies sweat when we are scared. This exhibit explores this universal emotion that can save our lives. Through fun, interactive challenges, guests can experience fear in a safe environment and discover the science behind their physical and emotional responses.

First Annual OMSI After Dark Costume Contest on October 28
Wear a costume and compete for one of our fabulous prizes, or come in regular clothes and help choose the winners. No matter if you’re in costume or not, it will be fun for all!

Contestants will be asked to go in front of the crowd to show off their costumes, and winners will be chosen by loudest applause. There will be four contest categories:

1. Geekiest costume: Whether it’s Dr. Who, Dr. Octopus, or Dr. Horrible, this prize will go to the costume that best channels a character we geeks know and love (or love to hate!).

2. “Greenest” costume: We don’t mean green as in the color; we mean “green” as in recycled, reused, or repurposed. Wearing last-year’s pre-made witch costume won’t cut it; to win this contest, it needs to be obvious that your costume is made from recycled materials.

3. Group costume: Grab a friend or three and come in costume together. The costumes can match or it can be more of an ensemble. Whichever way you choose, make it obvious that you’re part of the same costume team. Open to groups of two or more people.

4. Most creative costume: Let your imagination fly!
