Wilson Island State Recreation Area
Hike Leaders: Mike and Sheila

Wilson Island State Recreation Area encompasses 544 acres of dense cottonwood stands. It has approximately 5 miles of trails on flat land adjacent to the Missouri River. Please come prepared with adequate drinking water, sunscreen and bug spray for your personal use. We will hike for about 4 miles at a pace of 3 to 3.2 miles per hour.

Meet at the 'Picnic Area' parking lot in the recreation area.

There are at least two ways to get to Wilson Island:
1) Take I-29 north to the IA-362 exit, exit number 72. Turn right on IA-362 heading west for 6.2 miles. This is a very winding, hard-surface road and leads to the entrance of the park (past the Desoto Wildlife Refuge sign). Turn left entering the park and continue straight on Campground Lane to the Picnic Area parking lot.
Or,
2) Take NE-75 north to Blair. Turn right on Hwy 30 headed east. Approximately 10 miles from Blair is DeSoto Wildlife Refuge. 2.7 miles past the refuge entrance is a sign for Wilson Island. Turn right on County Road L16 (this is gravel) heading south for 4.1 miles. Turn right on IA-362 heading west for 1.8 miles. This road leads to the entrance of the park (past the Desoto Wildlife Refuge sign). Turn left entering the park and continue straight on Campground Lane to the Picnic Area parking lot.
