Olive Kitteridge is a character we all know—intelligent, acerbic, and equal parts perceptive and stubbornly in denial. Elizabeth Strout’s book of the same title, which received the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, is a collection of interconnected short stories that captures the life and lives within a fictitious rural town in Maine. Through Olive, and despite her, the townspeople and Olive’s family are animated in all their beauty, complexity, and imperfection. Brought to life by the actors of Word for Word Performing Arts Company, each of the stories selected for theatrical staging will be presented literally word-for-word, faithfully capturing Strout’s powerful writing and storytelling.
