Wednesday, Feb. 11, the Old Skool Café (OSC), a youth-run supper club, will host its 2nd Annual Gala Event “Swingin’ at the Apollo,” a 1940s-themed evening to be held at Café Cocomos, 650 Indiana St., San Francisco, CA. The event will benefit the OSC violence prevention program and showcase the program’s “Youth Interns” as entertainers, hosts and servers.

“‘Swingin’ at the Apollo’ offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the community to see our innovative social enterprise at work and to enjoy food prepared by award-winning Chef Eddie Blyde. It promises to be a unique and exciting dining experience for our guests and our Youth Interns, who are eager to demonstrate the entertainment, hospitality and service-oriented skills they have acquired through the Old Skool Café training program. And while the proceeds benefit our program, the support of the community is of tremendous benefit to the youth involved,” said program founder and director Teresa Goines.

Founded in 2005, the Old School Café is a youth-run supper club that offers at-risk and previously incarcerated youth an opportunity to learn entertaining and dining services skills for practical application. The Café provides expert catering and events services organized by the Youth Interns and complemented by the volunteer work of distinguished San Francisco chefs. The Café strives to be an inspiring and empowering organization and a positive alternative for youth accustomed to a life of violence and crime.
