121 Fletcher
Ann Arbor, Michigan

This Barcelona-based nonet makes its Ann Arbor debut with its joyous, energetic fusion of flamenco with hip-hop, funk, swing jazz, and other contemporary influences. The winner of the BBC's prestigious BBC World Music award, the group was founded in 1990 as an arts collective whose members used flamenco as a base for musical experimentation. It's fronted by rapper and flamenco singer Marina Abad and flamenco dancer Elisa Belmonte. A New Yorker critic said the group "combines the passion of flamenco, the energy of hip-hop, and the anarchist spirit of punk." Power Center. Tickets $18-$36 in advance at Burton Tower, and (if available) at the door. To charge by phone, call 764-2538. For general Summer Festival information, call 647-2278.
